CUTTACK, DECEMBER 22: Gokulam Kerala FC midfielder Mohammed Rashid says that the fans have the right to criticize the club after Malabarians went down to Indian Arrows, 0-1, meekly in their away match.
“We played badly. We could have done better. Everything went wrong for us. I think we took our opponents lightly. So there is no surprise in the way fans responded,” said Mohammed Rashid.
“They implemented their tactics well. If we look at the possession and everything we are in front. But that along guarantee a win. They sat back and disrupted us with counterattacks. The Indian Arrows players are skillful and very speedy. We just did not fight enough,” he admitted.
But the midfield maestro, who along with Castro was outstanding during the match, says the team will bounce back. “I feel that we have a responsibility towards our fans. We should not get disappointed. There are more matches to come. Fans should understand that this is a one-off performance. The squad has depth and talent to overcome this defeat,” says Rashid.
On the criticism by the fans on social media, Rashid said that the fans had all the right to respond. “Everyone expected us to win three points against Arrows and we did not. Several people are criticizing. We can understand their feelings. Only through their criticism and pressure we can better our game. We do not take their criticism lightly. We will fight back as a team to recover from this. We owe them a lot for their support,” he said.
The player has forged a good partnership between Brazilian Castro in the midfield and the Wayanad lad believes this could only get better. “After each match our understanding is getting better. He supports me a lot and I think gives his 100 percent during a match. Such players are an asset to the team,” he said.
Rashid assures that the fans can expect a better performance against their next match against Aizawl FC. “We now know what went wrong. There will not be a repeat. The team is working on that. There are more matches to go and don’t write off us now itself,” he added.
Gokulam Kerala FC play Aizawl FC in their fourth away match on December 29.
